Britax Romer Baby-Safe Plus SHR II
This one comes by Royal appointment, as it was used by William and Kate to bring Prince George home from hospital. It’s a very comfortable and extremely safe car seat that allows smaller babies to lie flatter and older babies to sit more upright with its integral recline system. It will see you through from birth up to around 12 – 15 months and has a super safe five point harness.
It is available in at least seven colours and the covers can be removed without dismantling the entire harness (this is extremely useful for any babies, like mine, who do 90% of their vomiting in their car seat). At 4.2 kg it is heavier than some of its competitors.
It can be easily installed into your car with a seatbelt, ISOFIX base or a belted base but please do check that it is compatible with your car. Britax has a handy does it fit your car? checker, which will hopefully prevent you having to change your car to fit your car seat.
The Britax Romer now fits a wide range of pushchairs with the correct adaptors from other brands (not just Britax), such as Bugaboo, BabyStyle, Silvercross and Mothercare. And in case you were wondering what the rather technical-sounding ‘SHR’ stands for, it’s “single hand release”, referring to its ability to be released easily from pushchairs.
D-SIP technology provides much safer protection in the event of a side impact, however you have to press a button every time you put it back into the car to engage this feature.
